Terms & Conditions
The terms on which I carry out electrical work for domestic and commercial customers.
Last updated: placeholder date
1. About these terms
These terms set out the basis on which SH Electrical ("I", "me", "my") provides electrical services to you, the customer. They apply to every quotation, estimate, order and piece of work carried out unless something different has been agreed with you in writing beforehand.
By accepting a quotation, confirming an appointment, or allowing work to begin, you agree to these terms. Please read them and raise anything you are unsure about before work starts — it is far easier to sort out a misunderstanding at that point than afterwards.
2. Quotations and estimates
An estimate is my best assessment of the likely cost based on the information available at the time. It is not a fixed price. A quotation is a fixed price for a clearly defined scope of work and remains valid for the period stated on it.
Where an estimate has been given and the work turns out to be more involved than could reasonably have been foreseen, I will stop, explain the position, and agree the revised cost with you before continuing. You will not receive an unexpected invoice for work you did not agree to.
- Estimates are given free of charge and without obligation.
- Prices assume reasonable access to the work area and to the consumer unit.
- Unless stated otherwise, prices exclude making good decorative finishes.
- Any allowance for materials is indicative and subject to supplier pricing at the time.
3. Scope of the work
The work I will carry out is the work described in the quotation or agreed with you directly. Anything outside that description is additional work and will be priced separately. This includes work that only becomes apparent once wall surfaces, floors or ceilings are opened up.
Where an existing installation is found to be unsafe or non-compliant, I will inform you of what I have found and what is required to put it right. I am not obliged to carry out remedial work that has not been agreed, but I cannot certify or leave energised anything I consider to present a danger.
4. Access, site conditions and appointments
You are responsible for providing safe and reasonable access to the property and to the areas where work is to be carried out, together with the use of electricity and water where needed. Please move fragile or valuable items away from the work area before I arrive.
If I attend at an agreed time and cannot gain access, or the site is not ready for work to proceed, a charge may be made to cover the time and travel involved. Please give as much notice as you can if an appointment needs to be moved.
5. Payment
Payment terms are stated on the invoice. Unless agreed otherwise, invoices are payable within the number of days shown from the invoice date. For larger jobs, a deposit or staged payments may be requested before work begins or at agreed points during the work.
- Materials supplied remain my property until paid for in full.
- Certificates and test results are issued once the account has been settled.
- Interest may be charged on invoices that remain unpaid beyond the agreed terms.
6. Cancellation
If you cancel work that has been booked, any materials already ordered specifically for your job and any work already carried out will be chargeable. Where you have engaged me as a consumer away from my business premises, you may have a statutory right to cancel within a set period, and that right is not affected by these terms.
7. Certification and notification
On completion, you will receive the appropriate certificate or report for the work carried out, along with a schedule of test results where applicable. Please keep these safe — they are frequently requested when a property is sold or let.
Certain work is notifiable under the Building Regulations. Where that applies, I will explain what is required and how the work will be notified before it begins.
8. Guarantee
Workmanship is guaranteed for the period stated on your invoice. Materials and equipment are covered by the manufacturer's own warranty, which I will pass on to you in full.
The guarantee does not cover faults arising from misuse, accidental damage, alterations carried out by others, normal wear of consumable items such as lamps and fuses, or from pre-existing parts of the installation that were not part of the work I carried out.
9. Liability and insurance
I hold public liability insurance and details can be provided on request. I accept responsibility for damage caused by my own negligence in carrying out the work.
I am not responsible for damage to concealed cables, pipes or other services whose position was not reasonably detectable and was not disclosed to me, nor for pre-existing defects in the installation or the fabric of the building. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Materials and equipment supplied by you
Where you supply your own fittings, appliances or equipment, I will install them with reasonable care and skill, but I cannot accept responsibility for the item itself, for its suitability for the intended purpose, or for any fault within it. If a customer-supplied item proves faulty, the time spent diagnosing and replacing it is chargeable.
11. Waste and making good
I will remove waste arising from the work and leave the area clean and tidy. Unless specifically agreed and priced, making good means filling and levelling to a condition ready for decoration — it does not include plastering finishes, painting, tiling or floor coverings.
12. Complaints
If something is not right, please contact me directly as soon as possible so that I have the opportunity to put it right. Most issues are resolved quickly with a phone call. Contact details are at the bottom of every page of this site.
13. Data protection
I collect only the information needed to quote for and carry out your work and to keep the records required of me — typically your name, address, contact details and details of the installation. This information is not sold or shared for marketing purposes.
Certification records are retained for the period required for that type of certificate. You may ask what information is held about you, and ask for it to be corrected, at any time.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
